About Flanders Synergy?

(The Flemish region comprises about one half of Belgium) Flanders Synergy (FS) is a Flemish organization, concerned with innovation of work-organization in local companies. Flanders Synergy defines itself as a Competency Pool, striving to generate and accumulate knowledge and competences which works as a centrally coordinated, but operationally decentralized, consulting network that aims to improve Flemish businesses’ ability to become competitive and flexible through a qualitative and innovative approach. Their vision is to create a more dynamic, challenging workplace in collaboration with all stakeholders, in order for more people to stay in the workforce with active, desirable jobs - and in a healthy work environment. This innovation of the work organization is accomplished through models, theoretical insight and tools (including much socio-tech design) based on research performed by a team of experts. Operating as a Competency Pool Flanders Synergy has established a knowledge and competency-generated network made up of governmental and educational institutions as well as private companies. This network facilitates a utilization of contemporary resources such as research as well as practical experience.

FS has significant government and grant support (about 70%) with remaining revenues coming from both their direct consulting activity and “subscriptions” to their activities, congresses, etc. by about 200 Belgium companies (currently they are 40% privately funded, due to immense interest and increased activities).

They have implemented approximately 1000 change-related activities in Flemish companies within the last year, and have 120 currently active projects. One of their main activities is to educate and train consultants, who in turn can train new consultants-to be. So far, they have trained 70 consultants, 25 of which are fully educated. The consulting is divided into two stages; the first stage is free of charge and is used to design the change process in collaboration with the organization. In the second stage, Flanders Synergy consultants guide the organization through the change process.
